Diversity revealed by a novel family of cadherins expressed in neurons at a synaptic complex

of outstanding interest. This study reports the discovery of the CNR family of cadherins. These proteins are expressed in the brain and are localized at the synapse; the expression pattern of each family member is restricted to subpopulations of neurons of the same type. This adds to the findings reported previously [5,6] that cadherins are expressed at synaptic junctions in patterns that appear to be mutually exclusive.
