Randomised placebo-controlled trial of effect of ramipril on decline in glomerular filtration rate and risk of terminal renal failure in proteinuric, non-diabetic nephropathy
-
The Gisen Group (Gruppo Italiano di Studi Epidemiologici in Nefrologia). Randomised placebo-controlled trial of effect of ramipril on decline in glomerular filtration rate and risk of terminal renal failure in proteinuric, non-diabetic nephropathy. Lancet 1997; 349:1857-1863. This study shows that the percentage reduction in proteinuria obtained with ramipril was inversely correlated with the decline in glomerular filtration rate. The reduction in the renal risk was significantly reduced after adjustment for changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

-
Hansson L, Zanchetti A for the HOT Study Group. The Hypertension Optimal Treatment (HOT) Study: 24-month data on blood pressure and tolerability. Blood Pressure 1997; 6:313-317. In this article the therapeutic requirements necessary to obtain an adequate control of blood pressure are presented. The need for combination therapy in patients when the expected goal of diastolic blood pressure is lower than 90mmHg was attained by more than 70% of the patients.
