    • The effect of distance on long range chromatin interactions
    • of outstanding interest. Expression analysis in full locus transgenic mice in which a marked β globin gene was placed at different positions in the β-globin locus. Primary transcript in situ hybridization analysis shows that the locus control region (LCR) proximal β-gene has a distinct advantage over the distal β-gene in cis and results in the proximal gene being transcribed much more frequently than the distal gene. The results indicate that the relative frequency of LCR-gene interaction between two functionally equivalent competing genes is dependent on relative distance from the activator.
