This confirms the hypothesis that the introduction of the mumps virus vaccine was responsible for the almost complete elimination of this disease, with the remaining cases being due to adenovirus in the most part. These studies reinforce the notion that vaccination could potentially be important in reducing the frequency of myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy.
