33. 15a both 6b and 8 were claimed to react with ethyl isocyanoacetate to give pyrrolic products. However, the proton NMR spectrum for the product obtained from 8 was essentially identical to the one reported for the pyrrole produced from 6b. Given the very different positioning of the nitro moiety relative to the pyrrole subunit in the presumed product structure, this coincidence is somewhat implausible. Therefore, we suggest that this result is treated with skepticism.
