    • Because the electroluminescence efficiency is extremely low, a constant dc voltage of 4 V had to be added to the pulsed excitation to deplete the coupled-well region and remove a spurious signal originating from the modulation of a residual blackbody radiation by the coupled quantum well intersubband absorption. This parasitic effect was already observed in an interband pumping experiment described in Ref. 15.
