In general several higher-rank tensorial moments in addition to the vectorial moments can be defined in the S = 2 spin space, different from S = 1/2 spin space. However, they do not appear in the interaction Hamiltonian derived by the lowest-order perturbation expansion in terms of the hopping integrals. This is because only one electron with S = 1/2 spin can be exchanged in each perturbation process. Thus the essential moments for the interaction Hamiltonian of manganites are only vectorial spin moments.
