McNeill published a list of epidemics in China between 243 BC and 1911 AD that originally was compiled by Joseph Cha of Quincy College. Population groups must have faced similar epidemics throughout human history. Living conditions could not have been less harsh in the 100,000 years that modern humans lived prior to the history recorded by McNeill.
