    • 30% of (R)-mandelonitrile (1 mmol) decomposes to hydrogen cyanide and benzaldehyde within 24 hours in diisopropyl ether containing tartrate buffer [7% (v/v), 0.1 M, pH 5.4] and almond meal (150 mg); only 4% of butyraldehyde is obtained from (R)-butanenitrile under the same conditions.
