Hypertriglyceridemia: The central feature of syndrome X
-
Reaven GM: Hypertriglyceridemia: the central feature of syndrome X. Cardiovasc Risk Factors 1996, 6:29-35. Because there is general agreement that low fat/high CHO diets increase plasma TG concentrations, the role of hypertriglyceridemia as a risk factor for coronary heart disease is of great importance in evaluating the use of such diets. In this review the argument is made that the conclusion that hypertriglyceridemia is not an independent risk factor is a function of the inappropriate use of multivariate analysis, and that hypertriglyceridemia may be the primary event leading to a cluster of abnormalities that increase risk of heart disease.
