    • Radial artery graft for coronary revascularisation: Technical considerations
    • Dietl C, Benoit C: Radial artery graft for coronary revascularisation: technical considerations. Ann Thorac Surg 1995, 60:102-110. In this excellent single-institution series of 165 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery with radial artery graft, the indications and operative protocol are clearly defined. The early results compared very favourably with a contemporary group of controls both from the investigators' own institution and with the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) database. The authors recommend an intra-operative Allen test.

Ann Thorac Surg 1996, 62:1076-1083. Despite some heterogeneity within the group in this single Italian Institution Series, the results are encouraging, with satisfactory perioperative and early patency data. Of concern was the finding at 12 months that only 64% of grafts were completely normal. The use of magnetic resonance imaging to assess graft patency and an in-vivo study of graft vasoreactivity to serotonin are worthy of review.

It is well planned and easy to read, and it gives a complete clinical and scientific assessment of the currently used arterial conduits. This is an important landmark in the evolution of complete arterial revascularization.
