Postoperative radiation for cervical cancer with pathologic risk factors
-
Hart K, Han I, Deppe G, Malviya V, et al.: Postoperative radiation for cervical cancer with pathologic risk factors. Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 1997, 37:833-838. This retrospective series demonstrates high pelvic control and survival rates in patients receiving postoperative RT with cervical cancer at high risk of pelvic failure. Both HDR and LDR boosts are used, and results are analyzed accordingly.

Evaluation of late morbidity in patients with carcinomas of the uterine cervix following a dose rate change
-
Rodrigus P, De Winter K, Venselaar JLM, Leers WH: Evaluation of late morbidity in patients with carcinomas of the uterine cervix following a dose rate change. Radiother Oncol 1997, 42:137-141. This provocative article supports a significant dose-rate effect, even within conventional low-dose rate ranges, in terms of late morbidities. Although direct extrapolation to HDR techniques is not possible, this information does raise questions regarding the adequacy of the information on which doses are varied with changes in dose rate.

Endometrial carcinoma: Relative effectiveness of adjuvant irradiation vs. therapy reserved for relapse
-
Ackerman I, Malone S, Thomas G, Franssen E, Balogh J, Dembo A: Endometrial carcinoma: relative effectiveness of adjuvant irradiation vs. therapy reserved for relapse. Gynecol Oncol 1996, 60:177-183. This article points out that the salvage rate with RT following surgical failure is greater than 50%. Given this, the authors suggest that an approach of observation and salvage RT rather than routine adjuvant RT deserves further consideration.
