The presence of an epitope shared by the transmembrane region of tne ryanodine receptor in thymoma tissue was demonstrated by the binding of polyclonal antibodies to synthetic peplides. The epilope was not found in normal thymii nor in other nonmuscle tissues suggesting that it may play a role in inducing anti-ryanodine receptor responses in myasthenia gravis.
