Thymomas express epitopes shared by the ryanodine receptor
-
Mygland A, Kuwajima G, Mikoshiba K, Tysnes OB, Aarli JA, Gilhus NE: Thymomas express epitopes shared by the ryanodine receptor. J Neuroimmunol 1995, 62:79-63. The presence of an epitope shared by the transmembrane region of tne ryanodine receptor in thymoma tissue was demonstrated by the binding of polyclonal antibodies to synthetic peplides. The epilope was not found in normal thymii nor in other nonmuscle tissues suggesting that it may play a role in inducing anti-ryanodine receptor responses in myasthenia gravis.

Implications for a pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis. Am J Pathol 1996, 148:1839-1350. Expression of neurofilaments, including one form that snares epitope(s) with titin, particularly in cortical thymomas, and in the context of potential APCs. The aberrant expression of titin in an inappropriate microenvironment could be the basis of autoimmunity against this antigen, but it fails lo explain antibodies to acetylcholine receptors.

Tanaka M, Tanaka K, Onodera O, Tsuji S: Trial to establish an animal model of paraneoplastic cere bel la r degeneration with anti-Yo antibody. 1. Mouse strains bearing different MHC molecules produce antibodies on immunization with recombinant Yo protein, but do not cause Purkinje cell loss. Clin Neurol Neurosurg 1995, 97:97-100. Active immunization of mice with Yo antigen fails to elicit clinical features of PCD. Similar experiments using passive transfer methods also failed to produce an animal model of the disease.
