-
Gong Q, Pitas RE: Synergistic effects of growth factors on the regulation of smooth muscle cell scavenger receptor activity. J Biol Chem 1995, 270:21672-21678. This paper demonstrates that platelet-derived growth factor and transforming growth factor beta increase ScR expression in rabbit SMC but not in human SMC. It is concluded that regulation of ScR expression in SMC differs from that of macrophages.

J Clin Invest 1995, 96:2170-2179. ApoE expression in macrophages, which was associated with significantly reduced atherogenesis in transgenic animals, was achieved using Visna virus promoter.
