12. The starting material is a quartz-glass tube of 10 mm outer diameter and 1 mm wall thickness. One end of the tube is sealed by melting the glass, and then the molten part is extruded to the proper spherical shape by blowing. After cooling, the tube is cut to the desired length for mounting the sphere onto the window carrier.
