Actually, as suggested by a referee, the possibility of inhomogeneous line broadening cannot be excluded as a reason to account for the loss of vibronic structure exhibited by the BAC emission in non-polar solvents. The inhomogeneous line broadening would arise from, for example, torsional motion of the rings (i. e. the twist) and hence a varying degree of charge transfer resonance.
