Although this signal, in principle, allows determination of φ of any pulse in the output train, in practice, the lack of precise knowledge of all the phase and group retardations introduced by linear and nonlinear effects in the fiber and the frequency-doubling crystal prevents a reliable measurement of the absolute phase by this technique.
