    • Laser ablation was typically conducted with gold surfaces facing up. Use of an oil immersion lens, therefore, will not contaminate gold films. For a given objective, the diameter of the ablated region can be precisely tuned by adjusting the laser power and/or by defocusing the laser slightly out of the gold plane.
