    • Soifer NE, Borzark S, Edlin BR, Weinstein RA: Prevention of peripheral venous catheter complications with an intravenous therapy team: a randomized controlled trial. Arch Intern Med 1998, 158:473-477. In this controlled trial, patients were randomized to peripheral venous catheter insertion and care administered by a specialized intravenous team or by house staff and ward nurses. Catheters were changed more often in patients in the intra-venous team group, and these patients had less bacteremia (0 vs 3, P = 0.04).
