x by EXAFS X-ray spectroscopy. Although this isolated solid was shown to effect the same McMurry-like coupling with benzophenone, the skeptical chemist could question whether this solid has the same structure and composition as the dissolved form of subvalent titanium reagent initially generated in THF. Moreover, since only 46% of the titanium derivative was isolated, one can inquire in what form or oxidation state the other half of the titanium exists and what its role in the original mode of the McMurry reaction might be [cf. L. E. Aleandri, S. Becke, B. Bogdanovic, D. J. Jones, J. Roziere, J. Organomet. Cliem. 1994, 472, 97].
