    • The fluorescence signal from the type of structures produced here can he expected to depend on the balance between two competing phenomena: fluorescence quenching, experienced by molecules adsorbed to the Ag particles, and fluorescence enhancement, due to an increase in the local fields experienced by molecules adsorbed to exposed Si in the interparticle regions.
