    • Note that the plots in Fig. 3 show the volume fractions of the different chain conformations, including free chains. The absolute number of loops, tails, and bridges remains fixed at large surface separations (the asymptotic limit). The number of free chains, however, increases as the surfaces are pulled apart. Thus, the total volume fraction of the loops, tails, and bridges decreases at large surface separations and the volume fraction of free chains approaches 1.
