The experimental carbon contents for 7 and 8 were marginal. Attempts to further purify these compounds by column chromatography and obtain better analytical data, unfortunately, were unsuccessful. The unsatisfactory data for 8 could be related to the fact that phthalocyanines are notoriously difficult to combust (see: Hu, M.; Brasseur, N.; Yildiz, S. Z.; van Lier, J. E.; Leznoff, C. C. J. Med. Chem. 1998, 41, 1789). The compounds were deemed to be pure by chromatographic and spectroscopic analyses.
