    • The doping dependence of the coupling constant in the NLσ model was considered earlier [N. Dorey and N. E. Mavromatos, Phys. Rev. B 44, 5286 (1991)]. However, the physically correct zero-doping limit, to recover the antiferromagnetic long-range order, has not been derived up to now.

    • The Dirac form for the holon action in the presence of π flux was considered earlier [N. Dorey and N. E. Mavromatos, Phys. Lett. B 250, 107 (1990)]. However, there is a substantial difference between the action considered there and ours. The presence of the (Formula presented) term in our action (Formula presented) makes the problem nonrelativistic (lacking the boost symmetry due to the presence of a finite Fermi surface). One, in principle, can “gauge away” it by shifting (Formula presented) However, the nonvanishing expectation value of (Formula presented) means the same thing, because the quantum field should be expanded around this expectation value. It gives rise to Reizer singularity, leading to non-Fermi-liquid behavior.
