The application of polychalcogenide salts to the exploratory synthesis of solid state multinary chalcogenides at intermediate temperatures

This is a comprehensive review on the subject of exploratory synthesis of complex multinary solids using polychalcogenide fluxes. A broad coverage is given and the advantages, intricacies, future potential and limitations of these fluxes are discussed. Particular attention is given to intermediate and low temperature conditions and their tendency to lead to kinetically stabilized, nonequilibrium phases. This article will initiate the interested reader into the fascinating and intriguing world of flux-generated synthetic and structural chalcogenide and polychalcogenide chemistry.
