9. + states. Nevertheless the intemuclear distance at which the ICD takes place is large and the interaction between the two Ne atoms is weak. Consequently, these two states are close to being degenerate and it is convenient to think in the local picture in terms of states where a 2s electron has been removed from one Ne atom.
