3 (1:2) catalyst giving 2-alkynoates in moderate yields, accompanied by formation of 1,3-dialkynes as oxidative coupling products. No hydrogen evolution was detected in the reaction systems and further search for the possible oxidizing agent revealed that oxygen inadvertently admitted into the catalyst system served as the oxidant (unpublished results in Shimizu Lab, Waseda University).
