note
-
When the contributions to currents are mainly from the Fermi surface as in the toy model discussed in Sec. IV C 1, the adiabaticity condition can be easily satisfied because of the finite splitting between two spin bands due to spin-orbit coupling. However, in the 2D models studied here contributions might actually come from states in the vicinity of k=0; to establish the adiabaticity condition it is essential to introduce a finite Zeeman field so to split the degeneracy at k=0 as shown in Eq. (100). Then the Born approximation is still applicable when the impurity potentials are weak compared with the finite Zeeman field splitting.
