Utilization of preoperative urodynamic investigations by gynecologists who frequently operate for female urinary incontinence
-
Duggan PM, Wilson PD, Norton P, et al. Utilization of preoperative urodynamic investigations by gynecologists who frequently operate for female urinary incontinence. Int Urogyn J 2003; 14:282-287. In this survey of gynecologists in several countries, the authors noted that many of the physicians did not use preoperative urodynamics prior to surgery, even if it was available. Among specialists (described themselves as urogynecologists), only about 70-75% of the responding gynecologists routinely utilized preoperative urodynamics.

-
Gateau T, Faramarzi-Roques R, Le Normand L, et al. Clinical and urodynamic repercussions after TVT procedure and how to diminish patients complaints. Eur Urol 2003; 44:372-376. Patients with complaints following TVT (largely dysuria and urge) were more likely to have infravesical obstruction, and therefore screening patients considered to be at high risk (preoperative valsalva voiding) should reduce the risk of these types of complaints, or at least be useful in preoperative counseling.
