3. Crim JR, Kjeldsberg KM: Radiographic diagnosis of tarsal coalition. AJR Am J Roentgenol 2004, 182:323-328. The authors define new criteria for the diagnosis of tarsal coalitions based on anteroposterior and lateral radiographs. Their sensitivity and specificity were high, even with inexperienced observers.
4. Westberry DE, Davids JR, Oros W: Surgical management of symptomatic talocalcaneal coalitions by resection of the sustentaculum tali. J Pediatr Orthop 2003, 23:493-497. The authors report on resection of tarsal coalitions combined with sustentaculum tali resection. No recurrences or hindfoot malalignment were found.

The author performed 37 medial cuneiform opening wedge osteotomies for residual forefoot adduction secondary to surgically treated clubfoot deformity. All patients were younger than 4 years of age. None of them had presented with avascular necrosis, even in the absence of an ossific center at the time of osteotomy.

The authors present an elegant study in which the type of injury to the ankle is more conducive to for premature physeal closure. Anatomic reduction diminished the chances of premature closure.
