1. The Lean Aircraft Initiative is a joint effort between industry, government, and universities. It consists of a consortium of 29 companies and divisions of companies, spanning the whole of the US aerospace industry, the US Air Force, Army and Navy, and a number of universities, including MIT, Penn State, and Georgia Tech. The data for this article comes from interviews and a 50 page questionnaire, with follow-ups, and interviews conducted with members of the industry consortium.
