From Socrates to Freud and Beyond
-
This is one reason why Derrida often writes in the future anterior tense: what something 'is' now does not necessarily govern what it might possibly 'come to have been'. The status of anything is undeadable: something that now appears insignificant may well come to have been revolutionary, when viewed from the future. For Derrida, everything is always 'in the post'; there is no final point from which to establish what something is, was, did, does or could be or do. See, especially, his The Post Card: From Socrates to Freud and Beyond.
