General National Vocational Qualifications (GNVQs) provide certification for students at pre-university stage following courses in specific sectors (eg Leisure and Tourism, Business, etc) and are equivalent to two Advanced General Certificate of Education (GCEs) which provide traditional academic subject certification pre-university entry level. GNVQs are also seen as preparation for vocational entry. Both qualifications are at Level 3 of the UK system. The levels are identified as follows. Level 1: Introductory. Level 2: Equivalent to school-leaving examinations at 16. Level 3: Equivalent to school-leaving at 18/pre-university. Level 4: Graduate equivalent. Level 5: Postgraduate
