    • A draft bill aimed at bringing the customary law of succession into harmony with the Constitution had been submitted to the government by the SALRC in June 1998. When this was introduced into Parliament as the Customary Law of Succession Amendment Bill, 1998, it elicited so much opposition that it was withdrawn and the matter was returned to the Law Reform Commission for further investigation.
