    • In contrast to Mainwaring and Scully, we believe that the PPD and the PS must be seen as different parties. The PPD was founded in 1987 and by 1993 it was 6 years old. Although the UDI was legally founded in 1987, it really began to exist in 1983. This explains our different value for the percentage of lower chamber seats held by parties that existed in
    • For Chile, Mainwaring and Scully give an average age of 37 for parties with at least 10 per cent of lower chamber seats.
