    • The Sun and stars are threedimensional objects, but that does not change the fundamental relationship of the number of steps directly proportional to the radius squared. What it does change is the constant of proportionality. For one dimension, it is unity; for two dimensions, it is 2; and for three dimensions, it is 3. I have ignored this factor of three so as to focus on the physics.
