The criteria for this assessment have been criticised, yet TI's reports are always cited in anti-corruption literature. TI needs to review its criteria and develop a more empirical methodology for such assessment to give credibility to the perception index.

Regarding the accusation of a vendetta, the National Assembly moved and almost succeeded in amending the ICPC Act but for the fact that their tenure had expired. Both the former Senate President (Pius Ayim) and Speaker (Gali Na-Abba) were accused of corrupt practices, which they refuted and alleged that the ICPC was being used against them because they wanted to impeach the President.
