1. Editor's note It is a pleasure to publish this charming little piece by Professor J. Hoenig on his translation (together with Ms Marian Hamilton) of Karl Jaspers’ Allgemeine Psychopathologie, published as General Psychopathology (Manchester: Manchester University Press, 1963). Jaspers’ contribution has been dealt with repeatedly in History of Psychiatry, but nothing can match the warmth of a first-hand account.
