    • AFR (Activity‐to‐Flavin Ratio) is a measure of functional enzyme activity, with AFR = 212 corresponding to a fully active enzyme. AFR is defined as the change in absorbance per minute at 296 nm in a 3‐ml reaction volume, divided by the absorbance at 450 nm of the xanthine oxidase used in the assay, under the standard conditions of 100μM xanthine in 0.1M pyrophosphate, at pH 8.5 and 25°C.
