    • 5a: 1 (0.5 mL, 4.85 mmol) was added to a vigorously stirred solution of 2a (1.67 g, 4.14 mmol) in 60 mL of pentane under argon at −20°C. The reaction mixture was then allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 30 min. After the reaction mixture had been concentrated to 20 mL and a slightly amorphous precipitate removed, the filtrate was cooled slowly to −78°C and allowed to stand for 1 week at this temperature. The crystals that separated out were filtered off, washed once with cold pentane, and dried at a maximum temperature of −20°C under high vacuum. Yield: 1.21 g (3.14 mmol, 76%) greenish brown crystals.
