    • Effect of clinical decision-support systems: A systematic review
    • This thorough analysis of studies of CDS systems demonstrates that there is good evidence that CDS technology can alter clinician behavior in positive ways, but that evidence that CDS systems can improve long-term patient outcomes is still inconclusive. The paper is also useful for its comprehensive bibliography

    • Reasoning foundations of medical diagnosis
    • This is the paper that started it all. This classic article provided the first influential description of how computers might be used to assist with the process of diagnosis. The flurry of activity applying Bayesian methods to computer-assisted diagnosis in the 1960s was largely inspired by this provocative paper
