    • Another example of the clustering of firms associated with both JIT and niche market characteristics is provided by Young et al. in their recent study of small manufacturing firms in two regions in New York State, see, They find that the majority of the firms in both regions were products of outsourcing from much larger regional manufacturing firms. Although many firms continued to supply their “parent” firms with customized products, they had also used this niche to expand their customer bases to include firms outside the region
