John Wiley & Sons, Studying defects in single crystals is however not straight forward due to their small mass fraction within the crystal. It requires analysis of the diffuse part of the scattering (not the Bragg reflections) which is non-trivial and can only be done if brilliant X-ray beams are available. We nevertheless consider it crucial to go through this analysis to gain an in-depth understanding of the crystal defects when interpreting the results of the exfoliation process
