Acta Ophthalmol 2015. [Epub ahead of print] The diagnostic value of elevated IL-10 levels in intraocular fluids has been reported for several years when diagnosis of PVRL is suspected. The IL-10/IL-6 ratio is often used to improve the sensitivity of the cytokine dosage in intraocular fluids (IL-10 being elevated in PVRL, whereas IL-6 is rather elevated in inflammatory or infectious processes). IL-10 and IL-6 concentrations differ in the aqueous humor and in the vitreous cavity. This study describes the correlation between these cytokine measurements in paired aqueous humor and vitreous fluid in PVRL.

Differentiating between masquerade syndromes, including PVRL, and uveitis can be challenging. Intraocular cytokine levels have proved to be an interesting tool to discriminate between the two conditions. However, the diagnosis remains difficult and intraocular cytokines can be falsely negative. The authors report a distinct microRNA-155 expression pattern in patients with PVRL compared with uveitis.

This original study reports a potential newdiagnostic marker forVRL. This marker has already been reported in CNS lymphoma, but hasbeen identified in PVR Las well, and its frequency (thus its potential diagnostic value) is being evaluated for the first time.

This study retrospectively compares the efficacy of different therapeutic strategies for vitreoretinal-only lymphoma and its impact on the progression to oculocerebral lymphoma. This is a large multicentric European study, including an extensive number of patients with this rare condition. However, treatment modalities are varied, reflecting the absence of consensus for the treatment of VRL.
