    • To be fair to history, I must point out that the political paradigmatic practices that the Western media has associated with the Asian state were also the driving force in American politics: the Tammany Hall of New York elected Grover Cleveland, a crony of Tammany bosses, President of the United States in the 1890s; Harry Truman owed his political rise to the Pendergast machine politics in Kansas City; and Nixon accused Richard Daily’s Irish political machine in Chicago of tipping the victory to John Kennedy by rigging the election.
