1. Chen Yi (1901-72). - Deputy Chairman of the CCP Central Committee's Foreign Affairs Leading Group, which was chaired by Zhou Enlai. - Chen also served as China's Foreign Minister.
2. Deng Xiaoping (1904-797). - Paramount leader of the post-Mao era and chief architect of the one country, two systems concept.
3. Hu Jintao (b.1942). - General Secretary of the CCP since 2002, President of China since 2003, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission since 2004.
4. Hu Yaobang (1915-89). - Senior CCP leader considered a reformer. - He died of a heart attack in 1989, sparking mass mourning.
5. Huang Hua (b.1913). - Ambassador to the UN 1971-76 and Minister of Foreign Affairs 1976-82.

10. Li Changchun (b.1944). Member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo overseeing propaganda work.
11. Li Peng (b.1928). Premier 1988-98 and Chairman of the 9th NPC.
12. Li Qiang (1905-96). Minister of Foreign Trade, invited MacLehose to Beijing in 1978.
13. Li Xiannian (1909-92). Veteran revolutionary, President of China 1983-88 and head of CPPCC until 1992.
14. Lin Biao (1907-71). In 1969 he became the next most powerful person after Mao. Lin supposedly planned a failed coup and during his escape, his plane crashed in Mongolia.
15. Liao Chengzhi (1908-83). Had longstanding connection with Hong Kong. He was purged during the Cultural Revolution in 1968 but released in 1972. He regained power over Hong Kong affairs in 1978.
16. Liu Shaoqi (1898-1969). He was in Guangzhou in 1925 during the strike-boycott. He was Chairman of the PRC and head of state from 1959 to 1968 but purged during the Cultural Revolution and died.
17. Liu Yandong (b.1945). Former head of the United Front Department until she was elected to the Politburo in 2007. Her replacement is Du Qinglin.
18. Liu Yunshan (1947). Politburo member and Director of the (central-level) Propaganda Department, which guides the entire propaganda system.
19. Luo Guibo (1908-95). Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister 1957-70.
20. Mao Zedong (1893-1976). Led the CCP to victory over the KMT and was the leader of China up until his death.
21. Peng Zhen (1902-97). A veteran CCP leader who fell out of favour with Mao Zedong in 1966 but was rehabilitated by Deng Xiaoping and was Chairman of the 6th NPC (1983-88).
22. Qian Qichen (b.1928). Foreign Minister 1988-98 and Vice-Premier 1993-2003 with substantial involvement in Hong Kong affairs.
23. Qiao Guanhua (1913-83). 1st Director of Xinhua Hong Kong, and became Foreign Minister 1974-76.
24. Qiao Xiaoyang (b.1945), Member of the PC, Deputy Secretary SCNPC.
25. Tao Zhu (1908-69). He replaced Fang Fang as the director of the provincial land reform committee in the party in Guangdong in 1952. Tao's assistant was Zhao Ziyang.
26. Wang Hanbin (b.1925). Member of the 6th, 7th and 8th SCNPC, Secretary General of the NPC, and BLDC Vice-Chairman.
27. Wu Xueqian (b.1921). Foreign Minister 1982-88 and Vice-Premier 1988-1993.
28. Xi Jianping (b.1953). Vice-President from 2008, and has taken over from Zeng Qinghong on Hong Kong matters at the Politburo.
29. Ye Jiangying (1897-1986). A Hakka and veteran soldier and military hero, first Party Secretary of Guangdong and held many high offices, including Chairman of the 5th NPC (1978-83).
30. Zeng Qinghong (b.1939). Politburo Standing Committee member and Vice-President 2003-8, and oversaw Hong Kong affairs.
31. Zhang Hanfu (1906-72). A Vice-Foreign Minister of China in the 1950s.
32. Zhao Ziyang (1919-2005). General Secretary of the CCP and signed the Sino-British Joint Declaration. He was put under house arrest from 1989 till he died.
33. Zhou Enlai (1898-1976). Veteran revolutionary, Foreign Minister 1949-58 and 1st Premier of the PRC. He played a unique and vital role in defining Hong Kong policy and relations throughout his career.
34. Zhu Rongji (b.1928). Premier from 1998-2003 and regarded as the economic czar of China.

36. Qiao Guanhua. 1st Director of Xinhua Hong Kong (see above).
37. Huang Zuomei (1916-55). 2nd Director of Xinhua Hong Kong. Also known as Raymond Wong, he was the interpreter and director of international relations for the East River Column and thus a CCP-British go-between. He was invited by the British government to join the victory parade in London in May 1946 and was awarded a medal by King George VI and an MBE. He died when the Kashmir Princess crashed in 1955.
38. Liang Weilin (1911-2008). 3rd Director of Xinhua Hong Kong 1958-77, a former guerrilla, he directed the 1967 riots. He was the longest serving Director.
39. Wang Kuang (1917-2003). 4th Director of Xinhua Hong Kong 1978-82. Member of the 5th, 6th and 7th CPPCC Standing Committee.
40. Xu Jiatun (b. 1916). 5th Director of Xinhua Hong Kong 1983-89. Former Party Secretary for Jiangsu 1977-83, and member of the 11th and 12th CCP Central Committee. Vice-chairman BLDC.
41. Jiang Enzhu (b.1938). 7th Director of Xinhua, he oversaw the transition to the Liaison Office 1997-2002. A former Vice-Foreign Minister, a member of the Sino-British negotiations team, and Ambassador to Britain 1995-97, a member of the PWC, Deputy Director of the PC, member of the 15th CCP Central Committee, and 9th NPC deputy from Hong Kong.
42. Gao Siren (b.1944). 8th Director 2002-09. Headed various party posts in Guangdong before becoming a deputy director of Xinhua from 1999 then transferring to the Liaison Office. Member of the 11th SCNPC and chairman of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee. His Liaison Office deputy, Wang Rudeng is also on the 10th NPC representing Hong Kong.
43. Peng Qinghua (b. 1957). 9th Director 2009-present. Before becoming Director, he was a Deputy Director of the Liaison Office from 2003.
44. Ma Yuzhen. Seasoned diplomat and 1st Commissioner of China's Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR.
45. Xiong Ziren. 1st Commander of the Hong Kong Garrison.
46. Huang Zuomei (1916-55). Became 2nd Director of Xinhua Hong Kong
47. Li Cheng. A guerrilla agent during the Japanese occupation.
48. Liang Weilin (1911-2008). A guerrilla leader who became the longest serving head of Xinhua Hong Kong (see above).
49. Zeng Sheng (1910-95). A principal organiser and Secretary of the Seamen's Union, who became General and Commander-in-Chief of guerrilla forces in Guangdong. He became Deputy Governor of Guangdong and Mayor of Guangzhou in 1960. He was arrested in 1967 during the Cultural Revolution and incarcerated till 1974. In 1975 he was appointed Vice-Minister of Communications and became Minister in 1979. He retired in 1983 and died in Guangzhou in 1995.
50. Humphrey Atkins (1922-96). Junior Foreign Office Minister with responsibility for Hong Kong 1981-82.
51. Peter Carrington (1919-2007). Foreign Secretary 1979-82.
52. Archibald Clark-Kerr (1882-1951). Ambassador to China 1938-42.
53. Percy Cradock (1923-2005). Charge d'Affaires Beijing 1966-69. From 1978 to 1984 he was the Ambassador to China, where he opened and led the negotiations on the Hong Kong. From 1984 to 1992 he was the Prime Minister's Foreign Policy Adviser.
54. Edward Heath (1916-2005). Prime Minister 1970-74.
55. Geoffrey Howe (b. 1926). Foreign Secretary 1983-89.
56. Douglas Hurd (b. 1930). Foreign Minister 1989-95.
57. Richard Luce (b. 1936). Junior Foreign Office Minister with responsibility for Asia, including Hong Kong 1983-85.

74. Deacon Chiu (b.1925). Far East Group and Former ATV chairman. Member of the 9th CPPCC.

107. Chow Shouson (1861-1959). Major political figure of his time. Member of ExCo 1926 and a close adviser to the Hong Kong government during the strike-boycott in 1925-26 working with Robert Kotewall.

109. Chung Shui Ming (b.1951). Bank director, senior researcher for Xinhua News Agency, Chief Executive of Government Land Fund, Member of Sino-British Land Commission. Board Member of HKAA and ExCo 1997-2002, Secretary-General DAB 2009-present.
110. Lydia Dunn (b. 1940). Senior executive with the Swire Group, and the senior member of ExCo under David Wilson and Chris Patten. She left Hong Kong after 1997 to live in London.
111. Nellie Fong (b.1949). Accountant. Member of LegCo 1988-91, HKAA, PWC, PC and ExCo 1997-2002 and 10th and 11th CPPCCs.
112. Frederick Fung (b.1953). Hong Kong Association for Democracy & People's Livelihood. Member of HKAA, BLCC, and PC, LegCo 1991-7, PL 1997-8 and LegCo 2000-present.
113. Arthur Garcia (b.1924). High Court judge.
114. Robert Kotewall (1849-1949). Worked closely with Chow Shouson during the strike-boycott of 1925-26 to advise the Hong Kong government. He was appointed to ExCo in 1936 when Chow stepped down.

117. Emily Lau (b.1952). Journalist. Founder member of the Frontier, which merged with the Democratic Party in 2009 and Lau is a Vice-Chairperson of the Democratic Party. Member of LegCo 1991-97 and 1998-present. Took unsuccessful legal action against Xinhua Hong Kong using the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.

119. Fanny Law (b.1953). Permanent Secretary, Education and Manpower Bureau till 2007. Member of 11th NPC.

141. James Tien (b 1947, son of Francis Tien, brother of Michael Tien). Chairman of LP succeeding Allen Lee (and resigned as Chairman after the 2008 LegCo election due to the party's poor results), BLCC, HKAA, LegCo 1993-7, PL, LegCo 1998-2008, ExCo 2002-03, 10th and 11th CPPCCs.
142. Tsang Yok Sing (b.1947). Teacher. DAB founding Chairman (till 2003). Member of Guangdong Provincial People's Congress 1983-88, PWC, PC, PL, LegCo 1998-present, ExCo 2002-08, 8th NPC, 10th and 11th CPPCCs. President of LegCo 2008-present.
143. Tsang Tak Shing (1949). Secretary for Home Affairs. He was a high school student at the time of the riots. In September 1967, he was sentenced to two years imprisonment for distributing seditious materials at school. When he was released from prison in 1969, he joined the New Evening News and was made Chief Editor of Ta Kung Pao in 1988 before joining the HKSAR government's Central Policy Unit in 1998. Member of the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th NPCs.
144. Joseph Wong (b.1948). Secretary for Civil Service (2000-06) and then Secretary for Commerce, Industry and technology (2006-7) before retiring.
145. Wong Po Yan (b.1923). Businessman. Member of LegCo 1979-88, BLDC, HKAA, PC, SC 1996-97, Committee for the Basic Law, and 9th NPC. GBM 1997.

151. Chen Jiongming (1878-1933). The head of the Guangdong administration and a rival of Sun Yat-sen.
152. Percy Chen (1901-89). In 1947, he established a private law practice in Hong Kong as a barrister. In 1956, he founded the Marco Polo Club. He was invited to witness the signing of the Sino-British Joint Declaration in 1984. Member of the 6th CPPCC.
153. Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975). When Sun Yat-sen died in 1925, Chiang took control of the KMT and became the overall leader of the Republic of China in 1928. He lost the civil war to the CCP and escaped to Taiwan.
154. Franklin Charles Gimson (1890-1975). Colonial administrator, who briefy served as the Colonial Secretary of Hong Kong before the surrender to the Japanese on 25 December 1941. He established a short-lived provisional government after the liberation of Hong Kong.
155. Fei Yiming (1908-88). Publisher of Ta Kung Pao. BLDC Vice-Chairmanand member of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th CPPCCs and 5th, 6th and 7th NPCs.
156. Fei Xiaotong (1910-2005). Distinguished Chinese social scientist and anthropologist. BLDC Vice-Chairman.
157. Gu Zhenghong (1905-25). A worker and CCP member who was killed on 15 May 1925 in Shanghai that sparked riots.
158. Cecil Harcourt (1892-1959). Rear Admiral. He received the surrender from the Japanese after the war.
159. He Xianging (1872-1972). A KMT official who broke with the nationalists and formed the KMT Revolutionary Committee in Hong Kong.
160. Hu Sheng (1918-2000). Director, Party Research Centre of the CCP Central Committee, and BLDC Vice-Chairman.
161. Ko Cheuk Hung (1902-87). Chairman of the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in the early 1950s. Early CPPCC member.
162. Wellington Koo (1887-1985) Member of the Chinese delegation to the Paris Peace Conference in 1919. He was subsequently the Chinese Ambassador to Britain.
163. Li Dazhao (1888-1927). Founder of the CCP with Chen Duxiu.
164. Li Weimen (1887-1927): A union leader who became a CCP member in the 1920s.
165. Liao Zhongkais (1877-1925) A Hakka and the KMT's finance chief. He provided the CCP with considerable funds to support the Hong Kong strikers in Guangzhou during the strike-boycott of 1925-26. Father of Liao Chengzhi and grandfather of Liao Hui.
166. Lian Guan (1906-91). A CCP leader in Hong Kong during the 1940s and the secretary of the Eighth Route Army's party branch office in Hong Kong.
167. David Lie (b.1959). Businessman. LP Member. Member of SC 1996-97, 10th and 11th CPPCCs.
168. Liu Bocheng (1892-1986). Together with Deng Xiaoping, they gave an order to blockade the Yangtze intending to hold the Amethyst at bay.
169. Liu Changle (b.1951). Chairman of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Ltd who together with Chan Wing Kee invested in ATV.
170. Lu Jianhua (b.1960). A researcher from Beijing who was convicted in 2005 for having passed secrets to Ching Cheong.
171. Mak Hoi Wah. Social activist and BLCC.
172. Mok Ying Kwai (1901-97). Businessman from a prominent comprador family who became a committed CCP supporter, and was appointed to the BLDC.
173. Ng Hong Man (b. 1926). Member of the NPC from 4th NPC, BLCC and HKAA. GBM 1998.
174. Scarlett Pong (b.1959). Pharmacist, independent candidate who lost at the 2008 LegCo election but supposedly had DAB support.
175. Lt. Col. Lindsay Ride (1898-1977). With the help of Francis Lee Yiu Piu, who made arrangements with the guerrillas, Ride established the British Army Aid Group (BAAG) in South China to help escapees and to smuggle medicines into the POW camps in Hong Kong
176. Song Jiaoren (1882-1913). An anti-Qing revolutionary and a founder of the KMT together with Sun Yat-sen. He was assassinated.
177. Song Qingling (1893-1981). Wife of Sun Yat-sen. She formed the Defend China League in Hong Kong in June 1938 and was quite successful in rallying support for the resistance
178. Su Zhongzheng (1885-1929). A union leader who became a CCP member in the 1920s.
179. Suen Kai Cheong (b.1953). DAB, Member of Wanchai District Council 1991-93, Urban Council 1994-99, SC 1996-97, Wanchai District Council 2000-03. Lost the 2003 election and was an appointed District Councillor in Wanchai in 2007.
180. Sun Yat-Sen (1866-1925). Founder of the KMT and considered father of the revolution by both the KMT and CCP.
181. Tsai Eng Meng. Taiwanese billionaire with an interest in ATV.
182. Edward Tyrer. Hong Kong's Police Commissioner who was replaced in July 1967.
183. Wang Zhenmin Dean and Professor of Law at Tsinghua University and Basic Law expert.
184. Wong Jo Fun. Principal of Chung Wah Middle School who was arrested and detained during the 1967 riots.
185. Xi Yang. Reporter for Ming Pao who was convicted of trafficking financial state secrets in 1993. A banker, Tian Ye, was convicted of passing financial state secrets to Xi Yang.
186. Xu Simin (1914-2007). Chairman of The Mirror. Member of BLCC, HKAA, PWC, PC, SC 1996-99, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th CPPCCs.

188. Zhang Xueliang (1900-2001). Warlord of Manchuria who kidnapped Chiang Kai-shek on 12 December 1936.
