Jacobson et al. define variation point as "one or more locations at which the variation will occur" [Jacobson et al. 1997]. This definition is similar to the definition presented in this book, but Jacobson et al. focus on UML models, whereas this chapter takes a more general view on variability by linking variability in the real world and variability in software product lines. Furthermore, our definition emphasises that a variation point exists in a certain context.
