1. Goodale (2006) discusses anthropology's "Statement on Human Rights" that was written by Melville Herskovits and published in American Anthropologist one year earlier, in 1947. Goodale reconstructs that Herskovits was approached by the nascent UNESCO for advice on the UN's Universal Declaration on Human Rights, then in progress in the Commission on Human Rights chaired by Eleanor Roosevelt.
