36. This behavior is also observed for tetrapyrrolic porphyrins [17]. The metalated species tend to be more volatile than the parent systems, and this may exaggerate the presence of trace contaminants. Alternatively, a small amount of metalation may be occurring on the mass spectrometer probe.
37. Unlike oxypyriporphyrin, the macrocyclic aromaticity of oxybenziporphyrin (5) was greatly diminished in 2% trifluoroacetic acid-chloroform.
38. Oxybenziporphyrin (5) also gives metal chelates under these conditions, although the identities of these complexes remain to be determined.
