Comparing neonatal and paediatric antibiotic prescribing between hospitals: A new algorithm to help international benchmarking
-
22378680 10.1093/jac/dks021 1:CAS:528:DC%2BC38Xlt1Gnt7k%3D This paper proposed a new three-step process for evaluating antibiotic use in hospitalized children. The first step is to stratify children by weight categories on the basis of the number of antimicrobials used, then to compare the mg/kg/day dosing and, lastly, to compare overall drug exposure using the DDD/100 bed days and the PDD/100 bed days between the various weight categories. It highlights the usefulness of DDD/100 bed days and the PDD/100 bed days when stratified by weight bands and how this may be a more meaningful comparison among pediatric groups
